After my successful chicken meal I thought heck why not experiment some more. So I did another chicken experiment. I am trying to empty my pantry so that I can make everything from scratch so this was a chicken alfredo experiment. I put 3 chicken breasts in the 4qt crock and dumped in a jar of alfredo sauce. Then I let it cook on high for about 4 hours. When I got home I turned it off and then cooked some spaghetti noodles, drained those and then put the noodles into bowls and then topped with the chicken alfredo. I warned hubs I wasn't sure how it would turn out or taste. He took a bite and said it was yummy!!! YAY! I thought the alfredo would get all weird cooking all that time, but it did not and it turned out quite nicely.Oh and my toddler ate it so that is another YAY!!!
My second experiment was with moose meat. I used moose stew meat (could use beef or any other similar game meat), let it cook with 2c veggie broth, 2c beef broth (both broths were some that I had previously made) and the moose meat all day on low then about an hour before it would be done I added mixed veggies and a couple of chopped potatoes. This way they wouldn't be too mushy when it came time to eat them. It turned out well and the moose is nice and tender. Hubs always likes moose meat so I knew this would be an easy success.

The chicken experiement was a....
success!!! Well I thought so, my husband thinks everything should be spicy so after adding some hot sauce he liked it. He did comment on how tender the chicken was. I thought it was good. I think I would add some more dressing next time or maybe a packet of dry mix to the dish, it could have had a bit more flavor. The biggest test was my daughter, she ate it! She is going through a picky stage and so I was shocked she ate it. She did need a little coaxing as she usually does but there was no gagging or spitting out so I consider that a success. Horray!
It is Crocktober!!! Tonight a chicken experiement!!
Ok so hubs has to (wants to) eat light the next couple days before he has his PT test. So tonight I am trying experiment number 1.
About 1.5 lbs of boneless skinless chicken breast
8 oz bottle wishbone (cuz it is gluten free) Italian dressing
1 cup brown rice
2 cups water (put the water in the dressing bottle to get the rest of the yummy dressing out)
I have it set on high and will let you know how it turns out later tonight....

Cream of mushroom soup
Today the house smells of cream of mushroom soup! Yummy, it smells so good and I cant wait until it is finished so I can try it out. My daughter helped me was the mushrooms and even tried a piece. She said she liked them but didn't want to eat anymore. I cant ask any more of that from a 2.5 year old. The thing I love most about making all these dishes from scratch is that there are a lot of things my daughter can help with and it is really fun for her and I. The second thing I like is how healthy all these foods are!!!
What is in my soup:
32oz quartered mushrooms
2 cups vegetable broth (yes I used my own)
2 cups water
1 tbs Italian seasoning
1 small onion finely chopped
cook on low for 8 hours
add 1 quart milk (can use any % milk you want even heavy cream. I am using 1% so mine will be a bit thinner than if I used heavy cream)
blend with an immersion blender (you can blend in a regular blender if you dont have an immersion blender)
freeze in 2 cup portions makes 10-12 cups.
